To truly unlock the nuanced layers of your tea’s aroma, a scent cup (wengxiangbei) is an indispensable tool. For those who prioritize a full sensory experience, we recommend high-fired porcelain or celadon straight-walled scent cups. These materials have a high density and smooth glaze, meaning they do not absorb or alter the tea’s natural scent. They serve as a physical bridge to capture the “lingering aroma”—the complex bouquet that remains after the tea has been poured.

What is a Scent Cup, and Why Do You Need One?

The scent cup is specifically designed to trap and amplify the volatile aromatic compounds that usually dissipate into the air.

While standard tea cups are wide-mouthed to help the tea cool down quickly for drinking, this design allows delicate floral or fruity notes to escape. 3. A Note on Pottery and Yixing Clay
